Srinagar, Nov 14 (KNO): The higher reaches of Kashmir experienced season’s first snowfall while the plains received rains on Saturday, bringing the temperature further down in the Valley. The weatherman, however, predicted more rains and snowfall till November 16. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Correspondent, the higher reaches including the world famous ski-resort Gulmarg, Gurez and other parts received snowfall today. The upper reaches of Gurez Valley including Chrownan area, received snowfall today morning while the plains of Gurez also received light snowfall coupled with rains. Razdan Pass, which is the gateway to this mountainous valley, has also received season’s first snowfall late last night, officials said. Pertinently on Friday evening, the 84-km Bandipora-Gurez road was closed by authorities for all sorts of traffic movement in view of a weather advisory issued by a local meteorological department. The world famous ski-resort, Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district also received fresh snowfall today while the plains witnessed intermittent rains, bringing the temperature below normal. The plains of the valley, however, received light rainfall today while the officials in the Meteorological department (MeT) stated that there is possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall in the plains across the Valley. Deputy Director MeT, Mukhtar Ahmad told KNO that the weather conditions would remain the same till November 15 evening and the conditions would improve from November 16. Meanwhile, the 434-km Srinagar-Leh highway was closed for vehicular movement on Saturday due to fresh snowfall in Zojila. According to KNO on Saturday morning, the higher reaches of Kashmir including Drass received fresh snowfall. An official said due to the fresh snowfall at Mani Marg, Drass and Zojila, the authorities suspended the traffic movement on the highway as a precautionary measure. As per local reports, a large number of vehicles are stranded in Sonamarg area after the road was thrown closed. Meanwhile, the traffic officials told KNO the Srinagar-Jammu highway remained open for the vehicular movement while only Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) will be allowed to ply tomorrow on the national highway—(KNO)
